Classic Sazerac Cocktail Kit
The Sazerac cocktail recipe is a New Orleans classic and one of the most enduring drinks in the world. This is a seemingly simple when looking at just the ingredients, but the real art is in the process. One is transported to Bourbon Street when enjoying a Sazerac. (Seersucker suit, optional).
The Sazerac
- 2oz Sazerac Rye Whiskey
- 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
- 1/4oz Legendre Herbsaint
- 1 sugar cube **
Fill an Old Fashioned or Rocks glass with ice and allow the glass to chill while you prepare your cocktail. In a mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube in the Peychaud's Bitters. Add the Sazerac Rye to the mixing glass and stir into the bitters & sugar cube. Discard the ice cubes from your now chilled glass. Give the chilled glass a quick rinse of Herbsaint by pouring in the 1/4oz and swirling the liquid around, coating the interior of the glass. Discard excess Herbsaint from the glass and quickly add the Rye mixture from your mixing glass. Garnish with a swath of lemon peel that is expressed over the liquid then hung on the rim or discarded.
